Inside the poll numbers: Which key groups have moved -- and which ones haven't -- since Biden's exit

(NBC News) Democrat Kamala Harris leads Republican Donald Trump by 5 points among registered voters, 49%-44%, in the new national NBC News poll.

While the result is within the poll’s margin of error, it does represent a shift from the last NBC News survey, when President Joe Biden was still in the 2024 presidential contest. In that July poll, Trump was ahead of Biden by 2 points, 45% to 43%.

The new poll shows the key voting blocs that have moved — and those that haven’t really budged — since Biden’s exit.

The biggest change is among young voters ages 18 to 34, who were essentially split between Biden and Trump in July but who now back Harris by 23 points, 57%-34%.

I love elections and opinions. Facts are good too, but no one ever uses them in polling data. lees1975 Sep 25 #1

I’ve been counting the voting blocs that are sure to vote for the Democratic ticket of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz:

1. The Beauty Vote - Beauty counts in politics. Who would you rather look at and listen to, whether on Fox or MSNBC, for the next four years?
2. The Economy Vote - Our growing economy beats what Republican nominee and former president Donald Trump left us four years ago.
3. The Women’s Vote - No contest.
4. The Reproductive Rights Vote - Including many men and business interests.
5. The Youth Vote - Harris is 59 years old with Swifties on her side.
6. The Climate Vote - the approach of Harris/President Joe Biden vs. Trump’s: no contest.
7. The Immigrant Vote - Harris is more for immigration than any previous presidential candidate.
8. The Minority Vote - Black, Brown, Asian - broader reach than former President Barack Obama.
9. The Democracy Vote - For all who see Trump as a threat to deny the Constitution and fair election results.
10. The Veterans Vote - Trump has handed her this one.
11. The Republicans Who Don’t Trust Trump Vote.
That’s a lot of people, if they all vote.
