What it will take to survive a 2nd Trump presidency

Opinion: What it will take to survive a 2nd Trump presidency

Keith A. Owens
Contributing columnist

(Detroit Free Press) In the time that has passed since the painful results of Election Day, like others, I have been using social media to connect with friends and other like-minded individuals, and also just to see what was out there. One recurring theme I’ve seen is “we will survive this.”

This, however, was not just a bump in the road, nor simply a misguided wrong turn that maybe we can fix in four years.

This was America showing us her true face, for those who may not have been paying attention, or who simply did not want to believe all of what we were seeing in the mirror. I include myself in that second group. This was a stress fracture inflicted on a nation where far too many people still see “us” and “them” instead of “us,” and my growing concern is this may be a fracture that cannot be repaired.

....(snip)....

It is America that has failed, and we will all pay the price. That includes Trump’s supporters, as they are about to find out. It also includes much of the rest of the world, as the devastating projected impact of Trump’s stated policies — such as mass deportation and excessive tariffs, not to mention letting Russia’s Vladimir Putin do whatever he wants with Ukraine — will send shock waves far beyond our domestic situation. ...............(more)

Only put into a mild apparent remission while it metastasized out of the old south. Now it’s up to stage 4 cancer, likely going to kill our nation soon

I think we need to encourage Democratic state AGs to take Trump to court over every attempt to infringe upon our rights.
I think we should also donate to the ACLU so they can do the same thing.
If these court cases can be won, great!
If not, then they should be dragged out as long as possible.
Trump stalled in court to stay out of prison.
AGs and the ACLU should stall in court to protect our freedoms.

although I think our justice system is beyond broken now. It just plain won't work for anyone, other than the super rich. They've made sure of that.

Once upon a time a few years ago, I was convinced the only way to save America's democracy was to split the country in two, and let them have one part of it to f*ck up as they wanted. AFTER we took away all the military bases, government installations, nukes, etc. Now, they have the government and, face it, the democrats aren't going to attempt anything before trumps installation. I am back to believing once again that the South should HAVE the south. It's going to be a logistical nightmare, and a lot of regular people on both sides are going to be hard pressed and left near poverty, even with government help, to get to the part of the country they want to live under. But I see no hope beyond this... other than to leave the country altogether and let Russia or another communist country come in. Exterior enemies are always easier to fight than internal.

We have a huge disconnect in belief systems in this country. The grand experiment has failed under the states that made up the Union under the founding fathers. I think it's best we come to grips with it and start figuring out the logistics of splitting this country up. Other countries have done it... usually with less than great results. But why does that have to doom us? Blue states are always more progressive, more productive, and more economically successful. Let them run their countries under the old Confederation rules and see how it goes. We'll have to build a damned wall to keep them out once all those hoity-toities decide to make all their people slaves and serfs. But so what? Man the ramparts with guards and guns. Let there be a North/South Korea here in the U.S. until people come to their damned senses and learn to live and let live, and remember what minding your own business means.

I say all this, knowing I'll be one of those losing everything in something like this. I live in a red state, but would be willing to sell or just flat-out leave everything if there were help in getting us to a blue state, with good government behind it. I redden in shame with what this country has done. I want my OWN country, where the land belongs to all of us and freedom reigns supreme once again.
