LTE - Bezos and the Post: This is how democracy dies

Amazon peddler and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos has now restricted what can go into (his) the Post’s Opinion page. Apparently caving to Donald Trump’s need for no criticism, he’s restricting entries to free markets and personal liberties, whatever that might mean.

When Bezos bought the paper, he was in favor of a free and open Opinion page, but, since then he’s caved to Trump’s threats of lawsuits against any press that reports negatively about him. Or perhaps it was his goal all along?

Democracy dies in darkness, as the motto goes, and it will die with Trump’s blessing.

It’s a vast change from the days of the Pentagon Papers scandal, published by the Post after winning court battles to do so. Katharine Graham is turning in her grave.
