So I blocked Fox "News" from my cable.

So I got home from work today. My conservo-religious cuckoo mother-in-law was babysitting our kids. My wife and I have been on the fence about hiring a sitter instead of letting her parents babysit. We go back and forth every time my liberal wife and her mom fight about principles. On the one hand, we appreciate them helping with kid coverage since my wife and I both work. On the other, the expense of a sitter would be worth not having the drama. We also don’t want to deprive the kids from seeing their grandparents twice a week.

That said, I come home today and found the television on Fox “News”. A few years back I had that channel blocked with the parental lock. But that block either expired or got erased by an update or something - I wasn’t paying attention. But seeing it on our living room television today, I got irritated. I messaged the wifey-poo and said: (actual text message quote.. copied and pasted...quotation marks added because I appreciate grammar)

“Omg. Fox News was on our tv when I turned it on. Puke. I’m going to put the parental lock on that channel again. I’m not having your folks watch that when they are here with the kiddos. They were here with them for most of the day. Fox News propaganda is not allowed in our house. No debate about it. It peddles hate for profit. Not allowed in my book.”

She responded: “Agreed” (she was busy with a meeting and couldn’t vent her true feelings)

The moral: FOX has no place in my house, my life, or this world. It is a parasite. It is a pest. A termite of society. It must be given no quarter. No acceptance. No mercy. It would be illegal in an ideal society. It is hateful and damaging - especially to our elderly who, for whatever reason, are lured by their propaganda.

No Fox. Never. Ever. Ever. IT IS NOT ALLOWED. And should be snuffed out in order for the future to survive prosperously.

The kids want the Disney channels, the wife wants the HBO, and I want the food network. So sorry if I’m technically paying for it. Sorry I can’t be as principled and pious as a monk. I still would like to have cable even though I hate one of the channels.

I'm sleeping on the couch tonight in the home of a RW Zombie relative. If I put the TV volume down low and search the settings, maybe I can do this small thing, like turning National Enquirers over at the check-out, that mean little to anyone but myself.

I will do this.

Edit: CAUTION! There was no PIN number set for parental block so I created one and blocked Faux News. When I scrolled through channels and got to it again, a big notice said there was a parental block! I thought it would just skip the channel.

So I undid my clever work. Damn.

You're not asking that they not watch it in their own home. And you're not being confrontational. You're just making sure it can't be on in your house.

I emailed a complaint, but nothing happened. Apparently, it's corporate policy to play it at all Mcdonald's. They're not satisfied poisoning bodies and have set out to poison minds as well.

Then go buy a value meal and sit there and program the remote to be able to change the channel. You can look up manufacturer codes for programming. It would probably take 5 minutes to hijack the tele and switch to something else.

You can still program the remote to turn the actual television on or off. So if the channel can’t be changed you can at least turn off the tv everytime you go in.

May 2019

I guess it would be temporarily satisfying, but not really worth the trouble of buying a universal remote because the staff is under instructions to switch it right back. I Googled this and there's a bunch of articles in Huffington Post and other places about how it's Mcdonald's corporate policy to have Fox running in all their remodeled stores that have tv's.

At least after I complained, they seem to often have music playing and the volume down or lower on Fux. I'm in a liberal area (Newton, Mass.), so I'm probably not the only one to complain, though I've seen lots of older and blue collarish people park themselves right next to that tv and eat while they're staring at it.

I live around the corner and it's a comfrortable spot to some times work on my laptop (except for the Faux News).

This was a friend who also used to post here on DU. If anyone wonders if this is a good idea, check out these offerings from FOX. This was one of the latest videos from The Daily Show, but I decided it wasn't worth posting yesterday since it would only annoy folks here and raise blood pressures. I could barely stand to watch the whole thing and I'm sorry I did.

..... That most services give the option of including or excluding any channel in their lineup. Usually in Settings. I have Suddenlink and I have omitted what I refer to as the b******* channels, religion, QVC Etc by simply not putting a check mark by that channel in my settings channel list. When I pull up my guide, they are not a part of it. I still have the fake News Channel in my lineup because I like to see what they're up to occasionally. Other than that, I just don't select that channel.
