The ultimate irony and benefit to me as that I got EVERYTHING forgiven
with the new one time payment adjustment if you consolidate everything to a direct loan through the feds/dept of ed
to comply with the new Dept of Ed new Save plan.
If the supreme court had upheld Biden's original plan, I would have only had about 1/3 of my debt wiped out.
*maniacal laughing*
thanks president Biden.
Drinks on me. I don't have a student loan payment this month!

(7,037 posts)Theyll just call you a leech or something, until you remind them that people like MTG get close to a million forgiven in PPP loans. But that somehow is different

(1,879 posts)I got the news last night. After 20+ years of repayment nightmare. I wont die in debt after all. Thank you, President Biden.

(661 posts)yes, it's been trauma and stress for 25 years.
Such a blessing to have that gone. I'm so exhausted today.
I think it's just now hitting me emotionally. It's been a rough road.

(17,318 posts)application, but there has been no movement on it yet. Hoping it will be soon, but wondering if one or the other program will be first (or never).
Nothing when I checked yesterday afternoon. Guess I need to check again when I get home.

(661 posts)August: consolidated to make all my loans direct loans
November: consolidation completed
January: email from the Dept of Ed that I was eligible to have my loans forgiven. (the golden email aka golden ticket), but it didn't say how much would be forgiven.
February: Email from my servicer that ALL of my loans are forgiven. Both my servicer and the studentaid website are zeroed out.
I wasn't in PSLF, but they are considering from the time of the oldest loan to how much time has passed/number of payments, and by my rough math they even considered some of my time in forbearance.
You can also do SAVE with PSLF, too.

(661 posts)I'm just glad to have the forgiveness. But if I get one, I won't turn it down LOL

(68,769 posts)I paid my student loans off a few years ago. Since the issue of student loan forgiveness came up, I've heard a lot of bitching from people who are angry that they paid theirs off while others had their debt forgiven.
I'm not one of them. I'm thrilled for everyone who has been able to have their student debt forgiven. The country has just gotten a little bit better, and I hope that trend continues.
This definitely calls for a round of celebratory drinks!
I'm a long time DUer but I had to get a new screen name several years ago.
I've been here since 2007.
I always enjoy your comments.
Yes, also a start a new job on Monday the 12th. It's been a good week
God bless President Biden.
