Those days are long gone along with a great number of other inebriating items. These days, cannabis and a G&T are just fine!

(5,962 posts)I worked in an analytical chemistry lab and we had a large cylinder in the storeroom that was used mainly by technicians to help them pass the day. A form of self-medication.
I don't think I'd have approved if I ran that lab!
We had nitrous in our analytical lab, too. Was the oxidizer for the acetylene used on the atomic absorption instrument. We quit using it in favor of ICP-MS.
The nitrous cylinder was probably there when I retired & I went to a different division 19 years before I retired!

(5,962 posts)She was fairly oblivious to what went on in the lab. I should say that this only lasted as long as the cylinder. You're right- it was a safety and industrial hygiene problem.

(68,460 posts)...and I trusted them, but nothing happened in that lab I didn't know about. And, I spent 75% of my time in the process development labs & pilot areas.
Oblivious is right!
