For me artificial sweeting of anything is a fast ' no thank you'.

I love onions in all their varieties!
But I also know theyre not for everyone, especially anyone near me when Ive eaten them!

(68,460 posts)I sautee onions for nearly everything I cook! Italian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, French, you name it!
I only put raw onions on a salad, occasionally.
My wife likes them too.

(1,058 posts)There are many varieties that are tremendously delicious.
I took a professional colleague to lunch and shes a vegan. I had a burger made from a portobello mushroom that was fantastic! It opened my eyes to alternatives.
ProfessorGAC
(68,460 posts)Those are my favorite, with Hen Of The Woods, a close second.
Fun Mushroom Fact: a crimini mushroom is the exact same thing as a portobello. When they're little, they're creminis.
You might see in the store pre-packaged "Baby Bellas". That's a cremini with a clever marketing name.
Figarosmom
(732 posts)Are the same as hen of the woods. They are delicious aren't they. Expensive though so I now just buy the kits to grow them. I can grow 10 times the amount for the price I used to pay at the mushroom store. The same for lions mane. Just grow them.
Figarosmom
(732 posts)Is mitaki or lions mane mushrooms fried to a golden color in butter (benecol now days for blood pressure) with just salt and pepper on toast points. Nothing better to my mind

(12,300 posts)Ketchup and Yellow Mustard are my big ones. I can handle mayo in small amounts, although I don't use it, and I'll use fancy mustard when cooking.
I also can't handle anything derived from Worcestershire sauce. That nasty raisin sardine sauce is revolting.
That being said, I like Heinz 57, which probably has all three included - I just don't look at the label.

So okay. A few soap chips are fine? I don't think so.

I love it, and I do get a very faint soapy taste if I concentrate- the rest of the taste drowns it out so I can enjoy it

(1,122 posts)Fifteen years ago, I almost quit going to restaurants because, at least in the region I lived in, it was such a fad that it was thrown into everything, often without notice to the customer. My favorite dish at a local chain restaurant ruined my favorite dish by cilantroizing it. I found out the hard way, by taking a bite of the food. Nowhere was the change in recipe reported. I found it out when I tried to send the dish back as tainted.

me, i like a good alfredo sauce. mrs. unblock prefers the more assertive cheeses, mostly bleu cheeses, but she has no problem with parmesan. though i've known people who hated parmesan but were fine with cheeses like "stinky bishop", which makes no sense to me, but hey, people are different.

Ages and ages ago I asked my Mom if when some people liked something and other people didn't, did the thing taste different to the people who like it than it does to those who don't.
She said no, things taste the same but some people like it and some don't. Then I asked her how you could know how something tasted to someone else and she said that's why she always said I'd become a lawyer, because I argued everything.
I didn't know what a lawyer was but knew it was bad 'cause she'd get mad and walk out of the kitchen leaving me in my high chair

(4,956 posts)when I think of the smell of ketchup in a trash can on a hot summer day, like at the pool or ball field when I was a kid. Yuck. That scent-memory made it tough to mate bottles of ketchup when I was a waitress. Had to basically psych myself out of really smelling it.
I do like a very measured, small stripe of it on a hotdog, and will sometimes dip fries in it- but only with a much larger serving of mayo to also dip in.

Just having looked it up to make sure it was fennel...
It seem that that sausage is the only one that contains fennel.
I'm thinking the other tastes counter balance it enough, plus I was a very picky eater as a kid, started to really expand my taste buds in my later teens.
I also love kielbasa, and chorizo.

(45,824 posts)Seems to me the ingredients are being reduced. I rarely buy mayo but got a jar of the biggest national brand recently. It's pure white, creamy, barely resembles the old flavor. Maybe it's me? Seems like they've reduced the eggs and spices. Same thing with a yellow mustard knockoff. I have to add turmeric, black pepper, paprika, salt, vinegar. What do they do to this stuff?

Funny, though, I love extra virgin olive oil.

It has chicken hearts, and kidneys.
