Food complaints for the week

Wondering if this might be a weekly topic.

I got overcharged for an item that was supposed to be on sale. I think they tag the shelves with sale prices but don't adjust the scanning system until hours later or end of day. This at Aldi. Also Aldi bread was about 2/3 regular size. Not the length of the bread, the size of the slice.

Have not seen Edy's Ice Cream here in regional markets in over a year, though have not checked Wegman's because it's too far away. Edy's has slow-churned, was formerly tagged as Edy's Grand. I need ice cream without gums and no HF corn syrup!

Stable shelf milk 1% separates. No matter how much I shake it the fat precipitates to the bottom of the container and pours out at the end.

Cereal boxes are shrinking but fully filled. That's a new idea, though the resize is in its infancy.

What got your attention at the grocery store?

Stored in in the same refrigerator location as always. A week before its sell-by date, I pulled it out to make some pudding and it was curd-like, soft butter consistency so it came out in lumps. It did not smell at all, so it had not soured. There was too much curd stuff to say it had separated. I poured it down the sink and the warm water dissolved the curds. I have seen a butter churn do this with churned fresh whole milk but never seen a carton of milk do this.

A 20# bag used be like $3. Now its $6.50.

At bj's, a big box wholesale club, its still under $3, but its not close enough to my boat to use.

So unless i need 500#, i buy bags, and that hurts.

It was over a decade ago and I purchased a discounted angel food cake, this was way before I discovered an ingredient sensitivity for myself.

Anyway, the angel food cake was discounted at $4.20. I had a few other things in my cart as well and my own estimated bill should have been between $20 to $25.

My actual bill came out a little over $60. I knew my total wasn't correct and I was trying to figure out what was going on. I paid the bill anyway and I looked at the receipt before moving on from the line. While the cashier had been ringing up my items, the angel food cake rang up at $42, instead of $4.20.

I went to the front desk and told them if the angel food cake really was $42 and not $4.20 as listed, that they could have it back. The front desk refunded my $37.80 that I was overcharged. Sometimes the cashier is only ringing things up so the costumer has to be attentive about prices. This happened at a WalMart in somewhere in the midwest.

Tops Market's is notorious for having sales (both grocery and non-grocery items) that don't ring up correctly. One year right before Christmas, the store had a buy a specific number of Christmas wrapping paper for a certain price. The sale price didn't ring up correctly at one particular location. About a week later I was in another Tops Market and a lady behind me in the checkout line had Christmas wrapping paper in her cart. I let her know that the wrapping didn't ring up correctly at another Tops location and please stay attentive on the actual checkout price for her.

I don't believe that Tops Markets deliberately overcharges their customers with sales items but it's happened to me frequently and I have to stay attentive to the prices during the checkout process. It's one of the many reasons why I like to have a human cashier ringing up my items instead of waiting on one person who's fixing multiple issues in a 9 station and extremely crowded self-checkout area.

I like Aldi's produce and some of the meat. Aldi's produce is fresher and seems to be a higher quality compared to Tops Markets. However, Aldi's large eggs compared to Tops Market large eggs are two different sizes. I definitely get a better price per unit at Tops Market on eggs.

I recently discovered that I don't like the taste of Aldi's marinara sauce or their mayo. I'll stick with the brand that I purchase at Tops.
