Be kind to Southpaws. And they (We!) should drink free at our favorite watering hole all day.

I truly feel bad for left-handed people trying to adapt in a right-handed world.

(3,544 posts)Im a true lefty. But, there are some things I do with my right hand, either because a right hander taught me, or the only tools available were right handed ones. When I was just learning to read and write, I wrote everything perfectly backwards from right to left! 😂
If accuracy is involved, its all left. If it involves strength, its my right.
I had an Aunt growing up that would send me left handed scissors, left handed rulers, etc. I loved her for that!

(38,902 posts)I write left handed, but bat right, golf right, use scissors right handed. Its a mystery. My late great mother in law was the only other lefty in the family. When she died I got her left handed scissors, in a very nice box. I cherish them but cant use them properly. I do crossword puzzles (sloppily) with my right hand. Its supposed to be a brain stimulator, writing with your non dominant hand. But I dont know which hand is dominant. Oh Well, we are pretty damned wonderful any which way.

(3,544 posts)Really use the scissors as by the time she gave them to me, I had already learned to use right handed scissors. The ruler, however, I used for years! Somewhere along the way, I lost it. 😢 One funny thing, both of my kids are right handed. They do everything right handed .except for tying their shoes! They tie their shoes left handed. It was the one thing that I taught them that stayed left! I always found that odd.

But I do have a memory when I was 3 on vacation puting my foot up on a step starting to re-tie it, forgetting how, then remembering, and finishing it up.

(4,119 posts)and unable to use left-handed scissors.
Growing up, I was pigeon-holed into using the only available scissors, the standard ones. Received LH scissors in 2000 or 2001 and though I've kept them, I can't use them and my wrist bends weirder than when I had to write in spiral notebooks (on the half desks that were always made for righties).
Thinking about it, I guess my greatest struggle in the right-handed world was during college smoking from bongs and pipes.

(9,720 posts)I write left handed, but do a lot of other things with my right hand (like use a computer mouse). I always say that I am a proud Lefty, in every sense of the word!
Here's to my fellow Lefties - WE ROCK!
