when my mom and aunt were little , my grandfather and their uncle made rootbeer. the 2 bottled it and put corks in the bottles .later that nite , all were awakend by a sound . mom later would describe the sound as like a machine gun going off.the corks were hitting the celing. later that day, my mom and aunt were told they could have all the root beer they wanted .

Fortunately, he had put the bottles in a storage tote so most of the mess was contained.
That shouldn't happen, unless one does a poor job of filtering the solids from the wort & there's still enough maltose & yeast to continue fermentation until CO2 built up a lot of pressure.
In the case of the guy I knew, he was trying to make a white ale, where the solids are left behind. He left out the step to denature the yeast, though. That's usually done by heating, the rapidly cooling the beer after it's put in it's container.

(62,943 posts)and just about bed time the exploding started. My dad used metal caps that stayed on the bottles The bottle exploded. This went on for about ten minutes. When he went down to the basement all that was left were a mass of exploded bottles.
