It stimulated my desire to travel to Europe, and serves as a reminder of all the wonderful memories I have of actually being and living there, especially in the late 80s and early 90s, when it seemed the world was actually going to get better for a change.
I used to listen to the album on my Walkman while walking along my posts airfield at night. The music was transporting, and created a love for the magical Europe I had always desired.
Did any of that make sense? Ill have to re-read that when Im sober.
The Getaway, by Chris de Burgh. Pure magic.

(10,339 posts)In fall of 1988, at 28 years old, I moved from Seattle to NJ for graduate school at Rutgers. A friend gave me Tracy Chapman's CD as a going away gift. I listened to it so many times on that trip. About the best first album ever.
I love the music I grew up with in the 70's and 80's. So many artists and songs come to mind. Drift Away, Dobie Gray; Life on Mars, Bowie; Alison, Elvis Costello; Bob Marley; Moondance, Van Morrison; Comfortably Numb, Pink Floyd, Delaney and Bonnie, Eric Clapton... too many to name. But it always seemed like there were only a few "favorite" songs on each album. With Tracy Chapman's album, every single song grabbed me.

As an original Beatlemanic at 11 yrs old, and at their Shea Stadium concerts '6t, '65- I think they end up not at my top list is bc they stopped performing early on.
All these other bands I've seen many times except for The Oils just a few (still great).
I really cherish music, song and live performance! 🎵🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🎶

(732 posts)Blood, sweat and tears, Johnnie rivers whiskey a go go, meet the Beatles. Eric burden and the animals and Shawn Phillips do you wonder. I like all the usual zeppelin and stones and doors, Fleetwood Mac, even matchbox 20 or simply red and all the ones that are played all the time on classic rock and so many others. Oh yeah any of Chicago's albums. Emerson lake and pal.er's works, that album in concert at soldiers field with Greg lakes voice carrying in with the wind was so strong on pirates. Then of course wish you were here pink Floyd
