(89 posts)Slices, wedges, blocks, shredded. Like to have cheddar, Swiss, Havarti, and provolone, but often include asiago, wensleydale, and Manchego.
Always got to have some crumbled feta, and some form of parmesan. Sandwiches, salads, and casseroles must have cheese.
electric_blue68
(16,869 posts)Until recently I'd have at least one, or two around always. Occasionally more.
Very sharp cheddar, provolone, whole, or skim mozzarella, feta (half 71 yr old Greek-American so it was not common back in the '60's, - '80'ishes), parmasen, muenster (my dad), swiss.
My Mom had a cheese club sub for a year so got to try havarti, ?gouda.
Definitely gouda in my 40s, and a a mix of parnesan & pecorino reggiano, even solo percorino as shavings.
In my 40's & 50's between some smaller food chain stores with specialty sections -
aged provolone, kefelotiri & kessari
(Greek cheeses), more goudas,
Probably around 25 yrs ago Maria's Blue cheese dressing! My mom would eat gorgenzola, I'd shy away back ! 😄
50's - found Asiago at the mentioned specialty sections, and a container big, shaved "flakes" of imported Italian parmesan (yum!)
At Trader Joe's their Tapas Sampler,
?English chedder with caramelized onions, and a few others.
Yes, I guess I'm a "Cheesehead"! 🩷🧀 😄
ETA:
Oh, how could I forget cream cheese!
ETA2:
Different but good living situation - less extra $ for cheeses, or anything.
Luckily while extorting all those cheeses tonight I have some Combos w Cheese left to snack on. 😄

Oddly, when Im floundering around for a quick dinner, theres always a bag of Brussels sprouts I cant remember buying to pan fry and toss with walnuts, dried cranberries, onion powder, salt, and a splash of raspberry-walnut vinaigrette for a glaze at the end. You know its good when your daughter threatens to arm wrestle for the last serving.
