For a few days there have been a bunch of crows thrashing around in my patch of canna plants, which had been eaten ragged assumed by me to have been done by caterpillars. They were into the upper parts of the cannas and beneath them and vocalizing their heads off. Some appeared to be smaller but not exactly offspring - do crows *nest* somewhere or steal nests? There are *NO* bugs or caterpillars visible anywhere although a few butterflies come around not-much.

(254 posts)I have had trouble with crows eating my corn seedlings.
Canna lilies are a favorite of rubber grasshoppers.

(254 posts)Lubber grasshoppers attack lilies and the associated species in large numbers. They attack, eat and move on in a group. I have seen them moving across my lawn and pasture in the hundreds.
Their methods are much like blister beetles on clematis vines. They strip the leaves quickly and move on.

(29,105 posts)They'll eat just about anything that doesn't put up a fight. They do eat plant leaves, including poison ivy. Your plants may taste usually tasty.
