My wife and I need help. Our situation is complicated and immediate.

I haven't been able to work in almost 3 weeks. Luckily, they have been very understanding.

Remember this gently used car many on DU helped me to get the down-payment?

The engine died while I was driving home from work and I am humbly asking for some help again. This is so embarrassing for me, but here goes:

Wow, the worst year ever. I don't know if you know about what happened last year, but things really went downhill after one of my patients passed away unexpectedly. (Natural causes, not the fault of any nurses. We were totally exonerated.) But, things (money things, thank goodness our health was good.) piled up and the icing on the cake was my Kia Soul also passed away. Many people generously helped us get the funds needed for a down-payment for this used car.

Well, I am sorry to report that the engine in my gorgeous gently used new car went kaphlooey. It was during the Hurricane Debby as I was driving home. I got a lyft home, but because we were in a state of emergency, they towed it off of the interstate almost immediately.

After getting it out of impound ($300.00) I had it towed to the preferred repair shop of the warranty company. Apparently, it is still under Hyundai warranty, I called Hyundai and scheduled an appointment. It is not until Aug. 27th. And it may take up to two weeks to get it repaired. The warranty company does not pay for towing or rides. They reimburse at a small rate.

Meanwhile, not having a credit card, I am unable to rent a car. Well, I did through priceline, but did not read the fine print (my fault) about the $400.00 deposit required. I went to get the car, but did not have enough on my debit card to cover the deposit. So, I lost the $313.92 that I paid out. No refunds. That hurt us badly. 😢

I am having to rely on friends or hire a car to get to work and back. It's hard to find a friend to wake up and take me at 6:00 am. So, it's been uber or lyft. ($60.00 each way)I have missed most of my shifts because of this.

I hate to even do this again. To ask for donation. It's embarrassing, but we are just hanging on and I am out of options. We once again had to get a forbearance on our mortgage. We missed the deadline for eldercare services to help pay the utility bill. The groceries are dwindling and we don't even have a vehicle to go to the local food bank. I have rescue pups and cats to feed.

I am a 62, almost 63 year old nurse. I am employed, but can't get reliably to work and am afraid I will be fired. My wife is a veteran and disabled. We have a house full of rescued pets and trap/neuter/release feral cats that rely on us. This is so hard for me to ask, but please consider a donation.

Thank you, Lara and Kat

K&R please. And will you please share on your social media? And send prayers or realky positive vibes that our situation improves.

Thanks! Lara

Much of this sounds familiar to me and my mom. LiHEAP has helped us with utilities. Maybe you can look into that. I wish I could donate but I’m having my worst month ever. Good luck to you and we’ll be here for you.
