You need 2 shots, a year apart. I got one last year, and was wondering if i need a booster. Yup, i got the prevnar-20 and that still needs a booster.

(1,267 posts)1. Also, there are two different pneumonia vaccines: Prevnar and Pneumovax. My doctor had me
get both, because I have lung issues.

(887 posts)2. The newer one is Prevnar23, and it's a one-and-done
The older Pneumovax is a two-shot series and the older Prevnar (13 and 20).
(Im a pharmacy tech and we rarely do the older ones anymore.)
