Exhausted today

There was a red vixen fox in my yard screeching last night. Usually a "shut up, " or go away," works nicely. Some nights I have to use a referee whistle. It took awhile but finally she moved back to the hedge row which is a good distance from the house, but I could still hear her.

The dog started to bark. I had to close the window and turn on the fan. I think he could still hear her because he barked for about 10 more minutes. Not a night conducive to sleep.

I read they scream like that when they are in heat, or to call a pup that has wandered off. I assume mating season is well over, so it must be she lost a pup, and she gave birth later in the season, because they mature fairly rapidly don't they?

I love nature, but I could do without that freaky loud scream right as I am trying to go to sleep.

We have coyotes that come have a group "howl" sometimes in the wooded area at the back of our yard. That always sends a chill up the spine and sets off the neighbors' dogs. Hopefully you and your dog will get more sleep tonight. Take care.
