(67,621 posts)I faced down an unstable mental health patient threatening violence in the lobby of the clinic yesterday. Everyone else kept their distance, wondering, quite justifiably if he was going to get violent.
I had confrontations like this every couple of months when I was at the homeless clinic. I was used to it. There was no barrier between us, and he got pretty close a couple of times. I kept him talking, kept reassuring him that no one was going to disrespect him.
Finally, the cops showed up and escorted him off the property. They obviously just dumped him off a couple of blocks away, because he was back in the lobby ten minutes later when I was in my office trying to get centered again.
I had to do it all over again for another fifteen minutes or so, until the cops came back and formally took him into custody on trespassing charges.
The staff gave me high-fives all around. I had to go back to my office and try to stop trembling.
The reason this is a good thing is because the office politics shit-stirrers are going to hear about it, and maybe theyll stop their attempts to belittle and humiliate me.

(27,117 posts)Should the GP, NP, or whoever is tasked with general health....visit their patients home? Seems like you'd gain a lot of insight to see how your patients live in your quest to give them optimal healthcare.

(67,621 posts)At my old employer, I took my team down to the homeless shelter one afternoon a week and held clinic.
It was six blocks down the steepest hill in Tacoma. It was nice saving our patients the hike up that hill.

(27,117 posts)Who you see in the office may not be the same person in their living situation. My uncle was a GP/OB-GYN he did house-calls at 3 in the morning. Sadly, that connection is missing today.

(8,912 posts)Yesterday, I spent time with my adult son. We had dinner together as he has a birthday coming up soon.
Today, I got to see another imperative person in my life who makes me feel less alone and always gives me 2 massive hugs per visit.
I got 3 imperative things on the "Niagara to do list" completed today as well!

(2,792 posts)My daughter lives about 300s away. She made the trip here with my grandson who just had his birthday this week.
Went to the store to pick up some stuff. Mainly a birthday cake. For some reason the self checkout didnt like my pin. Checked it on the app everything looked good. Tried a different card same thing. Everything looked good. Then the reason showed up. The self serve deal crashed. But not before I had tried both cards enough where the pin was refused on a different register. I called the card company. They said I had to request a reset and wait for the mail to get a temporary one. Or go to a local branch and get it fixed. Decided to go to the local branch and reset. The big plus on that was a local bakery was right behind the bank. So got a lot better quality cake and supported a local bakery. Had a great day with my family.

I am glad your husband has finished the second week of radiation. Each week brings him closer to the radiation being over. I have been thinking of him and you, and hoping for the best outcome so he is healthy once more. You both will continue to be in my thoughts. Take care.

I was just on a plane all last night from Washington to Amsterdam. I am now at the Amsterdam airport waiting for the short hop over to Düsseldorf in about an hour and a half. Welcome back to my life for the next four months.
