I'm getting the house ready, since my step-daughter is coming to town for a visit later tonight.

I've been popping in and out of DU in-between chores.

I’ve only been under general once, but it was a nervous time.

5. I'm grounded

I was driving home yesterday, was in a construction zone and a truck on the other side of the concrete barrier threw a rock from the pavement and broke my windshield. I saw it coming and there was no time to do anything. I felt like a dinosaur watching a meteor. I have an appt. to get it fixed tomorrow, so catching up on chores around the house. Also checking maps to see if there is any way to get from here to there and avoid the construction areas. Both of the main routes north are a mess.

8. Of course

I'm making a decent meal-roasting a chicken breast with vegetables.

My birthday was Sat. I was away from home and my kids ordered a full-size birthday cake for me from a terrific bakery close to where I was staying. I picked it up, took it to the house and later, carried the cake around with me on my errands, trying to get perfect strangers to take a slice. No luck. I even offered some to the tow truck driver. I am not sure, but I think the aim of getting me a cake that big, all for me, is to make me tired of it till my next birthday! And it's working.

10. You get to a certain age, the things you used to love doing every day

you are now happy to do once a year or less.

Anything else interferes with lounging on the couch in one’s pajamas.

9. Hanging out waiting for a mealworm delivery.

Five minutes in the sun in this heat and they'll quickly turn into beetles.

11. And become a meal for something else.

Maybe if they turn into beetles, you can start a new batch?
