We have air conditioning in every school. It’s gross how states are negligent on this. They need to wake up and do the job of protecting kids. Yes being in school in atrocious heat is not protecting kids.

Our schools do have air conditioning though. When I was in school we didn't have air conditioning until high school. It was a brand new building with NO windows, so I guess there was no option but to put in air conditioning. By the time my son started school in 1990 all the schools were air conditioned.

I remember the huge fans in each classroom that made the students go to sleep as they cooled us off.

5. Oh how I hated the start of school back in the day...

I remember starting school during the 3rd or 4th week of August every year in sunny South Florida. My high school only had a couple of rooms with a/c back then. I never really got to have classes in those rooms. It was horrible. It could be a hundred degrees in the classroom. Since my parents sent me to catholic school I had to adhere to the dress code of long pants, a shirt with a collar and no sneakers. It would have been torturous enough without the stupid dress code. I cannot express how much I hated school. It's hard to learn when you're suffering from heat exhaustion. All I did was hit the water fountain and sweat all day. High school really felt like a waste of four years of my life. Stay safe and stay hydrated!

6. We had no a/c in the 60s when I was in grade school. We'd end up having class outside in the shade if it

was too hot. I'm in Idaho where the humidity isn't bad at least.

Those schools all have a/c and look totally different now because most of the windows are gone. Those went when they upgraded insulation and installed a/c.

Sometime between the 13th & 21st the schools around here started.
ALL the schools at which I sub have A/C for the warm months.
When I was in school, I wasn't in an air conditioned classroom until I hit college.

iLn Chicago. For the entire week the kids were able to bring in water bottles and wear shorts and t-shirts. School started at 8:00 and ended at 12:00. Here in PA if you get the 4 hours in. it is considered a complete day.
