Thank you for responding. I got three responses and it seems like I should post under general discussions. I want to post about an experience I had with someone called Skinner who was or is with Democratic Underground. have meant to do it for years.

(12,831 posts)And, for further reference - you can explore 'forums' (and rules, topics, etc.) from the Forums tab.
Click on a 'category or forum' there - takes you to recent posts in that bucket (and you can see what others or posting there) - and then tab 'About Forum' to get to info, rules, etc. You'll be surprised how deep and varied the offerings are!
Thank you for responding. Im going to try a post under general discussions and see if anything happens.

(25 posts)What I want is to relay an experience I had many years ago with a person called Skinner who was in a position of decision making at DU. I have meant to share this story for years and just felt an overwhelming need lately to do it. Of course, I would like as many people as possible to see it. I was just unclear about how to proceed. Im surprised at all the stuff that happened here, evidently because I was confused.

(11,463 posts)Please read those carefully if you want to stay here long. Complaining about forum moderation, even if years ago, is one such violation. Negative callouts of DU members is another.

skinner is still a member of DU even though he hasn't posted since 2020

(25 posts)Im really sorry. When I posted originally as confused, I thought someone would answer my question about the appropriate place to post something. I got three responses, thanked them and figured that was that and when I had time I would write about my good experience with a person named Skinner. All of a sudden, there were a lot of posts and responses and I realized I hadnt understood what I was getting into. I thought that once I got a response and knew where to post that I could wait till I had some time and write about my
positive experience. Its kind of long, and I thought I could take my time. So again, Im very sorry about my inexperience and unintentional vagueness. I will write about my exchange when I have more time and can do it justice. So again, I apologize for any misunderstanding or annoyance my naïveté has caused.

(20,291 posts)When you have drafted your post about Skinner and it's ready for General Discussion, please post a copy of it in this thread so the DU Lounge folks who don't venture to General Discussion very often can find it here.
Thank you, and feel free to stick around if you have any inclination!

(25 posts)Yes, I will definitely do that. When you have a little time, would you be willing to explain to me, or direct me to someplace which explains this process? Like, how did I get connected with this thread? Is this a thread with particular people that pretty much always stays the same? I dont want to pepper you with annoying questions, and I have a number of them, so maybe you could tell me where I can find out general info. Ive been with DU a long time-it has been my homepage for a long time, but never really interacted and never have understood how it works.

(19,033 posts)Here is a link that lists the forums by category, such as Support and Culture, and then alphabettically, such as Cooking and Baking, Humor, Pets, and so on. You will see there are many forums. The good news is you can subscribe to any you think you'll visit often, and your forum subscriptions will appear as an alphabetical list on the left side of your screen. The Main Forums are at the top of the list by default.
The Community and Help Forum is good to find information on how to navigate and use DU. If you are logged in, there are tabs across the top of the screen. If you click on Forums, you will go right to the page in the link: https://democraticunderground.com/?com=forums
I personally post in the Lounge if I have something funny or nonpolitically interesting to say. The Lounge is like the office water cooler. I post in General Discussion if I have an insight about politics or daily living that others might read and comment on. Just poke around and enjoy the company of like-minded people. Welcome to DU!

So I did write about my experience with Skinner, and I thought I posted it, but it appears in yellow at he bottom of the posts and does not seem to have actually posted. Im sorry, I feel like an idiot for seemingly being unable to figure out this process. You were kind in your response to me, so I thought it would be ok to ask for your help. Why is it yellow and how do I post it?

(20,291 posts)Your post did indeed appear at the bottom of this thread. I can see it:

(25 posts)Im wondering where I should put my post so people can see it. Evidently you are the only one who has seen it in the place where all this started. It still appears in yellow, and I havent gotten any feedback or response from any of the people who initially responded. I would like other people to see it, but dont know how to make that happen. Sorry to be bugging you with questions. If its annoying, just let me know and Ill try to seek help elsewhere.

(20,291 posts)I see your post about Skinner has four recommendations, so it is being seen. But to give it a higher profile and garner more attention, I would encourage you to use that post to start your own thread in the Lounge. The title of this thread means a lot of people probably aren't reading much beyond the initial post, so the Skinner anecdote needs to breathe on its own, so to speak.

(25 posts)I am sorry this has taken so long and was confusing. This whole posting business, where etc. has me flummoxed and I kind of regret starting this. I wish someone was sitting with me giving me a verbal cram course on this stuff. Anyway, a friend (Democrat) introduced my partner and I to DU a long time ago. We both (although Independents) were so impressed by the site that we began visiting daily and soon it became the homepage on our shared computer. On and on we read until October of 2015 when, completely disillusioned, I found the email for a person called Skinner and wrote this to him:

And of course the "pull you in" photo is usually an exposed or embarrassingly photographed woman. The photo of the cheerleader who didn't realize she was menstruating... really? REALLY? And then of course there are the "freak" pictures.

Imagine my surprise when he answered me that same day.
I was disappointed in his response-basically telling me DU didn't choose the adverts that appear and they'll look into it.
Then, I was floored when almost immediately I got another email saying that my email was a good prompt to look at the ads, he was surprised, he said "at the low quality (and yes, sleazy) ads that some visitors are seeing" and he went on to say he had decided to look into other options. I can't tell you how good that made me feel. To be heard and have immediate response and action taken in situations like this is so rare, I knew I had arrived at my online home.
Change was made and I received a final email from Skinner.
That's my story. I think about that experience from time to time and appreciate what a great place DU is, and that an honorable person took the time to read my email and take action. Thank you all for bearing with me through this, and thank you to Skinner, wherever you are<
