(497 posts)Dip, smother, fingers, fork, ketchup room temp, ketchup cold. If the fries are crisp and hot, it is a great day.

(11,962 posts)They were from a street vendor--fresh, crisp, and with mayonnaise. It was a delicious mayonnaise that was slightly yellow and very rich. I was in heaven.

(5,018 posts)would dip in tartar sauce. That was probably from starting to eat weekly fish fry at a young age. I even used to dip my rye bread from the fish fry. At teen-age when hanging out at burger joints and drive-ins I went "straight" and just made sure they had plenty of salt. I've never been big on "seasoned" fries or "natural" fries with a peel on. I am not a steak fries fan although they can be OK.
I like a good crinkle cut but I can take them thin and straight like at McD's. Half the battle at some places is having them realize that foods fried in oil can take on unpleasant taste characteristics if left up in open air under heat lamps for too long. They need to purge them after about 20 minutes or a little less. Depends on the quality of the oil used. Some of the commercial stuff is ghastly.
