The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI've got a couple of new kittens.
Theyre really young and are about the size of my palm. Ive heard that they like milk. Is that true? I need to know what to feed them. I wonder if something happened to their parents. The kittens are just able to reach the bowl of kibble outside. They wont let me touch them yet, but they dont run away when I come out.

(17,012 posts)They are cute as hell. Im thinking about taking them in, but I dont know if I can take in more cats. I guess I could put an ad out for them.

(59,464 posts)Can't have just 1 or 2 or 5. lol

(17,012 posts)Im going to be a catman, it seems.
SheltieLover
(59,464 posts)The older ones will occupy them & tire them out to save your feet. lol
And they'll teach them how to be cats.
Congrats on your new kits. What colors are they?

(17,012 posts)Im thinking he/she might turn out to be a black cat. The other one has a funny face with prominent whiskers and he/she is black and white. If theyre taken care of, I think theyll both turn out to be pretty.

(59,464 posts)Can you get them in your house so they don't fall, prey to coyotes or whatever might be hunting near you?
Haggard Celine
(17,012 posts)Maybe I can fix a little box and feed them there until I decide what to do. We dont have coyotes, but Im sure theres something out there that can hurt them. Their mom, if shes still alive, probably let them come here because its safe from people who might hurt them.
SheltieLover
(59,464 posts)Poor little things!
Mom might not be around or alive anymore. That's my guess becaude she could definitely follow them by scent.
Thank you for looking after them. Yes a box with litter in it will work. They are so tiny, they don't urinate much.
Haggard Celine
(17,012 posts)I can put them in the kitchen/dining room. I hope I find someone who will take them. I probably won't be able to put them outside again after bringing them inside.

(37,347 posts)Dairy milk is probably safe, but the specialty milk is formulated just for kittens.
Also, try really soft food like squeezable treats -- several brands out there.

(87 posts)I had never heard of powdered kitten milk before but my better half uses it to feed rescue squirrels (also a thing I'd never heard of until...).
Haggard Celine
(17,012 posts)I didnt know about the kitten milk substitute. Ill get some of that as well. Gosh, the products we have these days boggle the mind.

(10,702 posts)The lactose in regular cow milk will make them sick.
Haggard Celine
(17,012 posts)Ill go get some. I just want them to be comfortable and to enjoy themselves.

(3,510 posts)Id put out the bowl and sit there with my hand down. I got her to let me barely touch her. Then when she let me pet her I was able to get her inside. Tried finding a foster but none available. We ended up fostering her with the expectation of having her adopted through a local adoption program. Anyways 3 or so years later she is still here. I was outvoted the night before I had setup to bring her to the Petsmart adoption day.
