And we do like his product. After we saw his commercials for about the 500th time My Wife asked, is he still alive?

7. Glad it wasn't just me. Reminds me of Saturday morning TV when I was a kid, which was a wonderful time for me.

17. Yeah, me too. I find it funny that so many don't know he's been dead nearly 15 years, but I always liked him

If the ads weren’t working they’d have yanked him long ago. My wife and I do our old people best to lead a healthy lifestyle (exercise and food) but an occasional Jimmy Dean processed food breakfast is on the menu.

"Now get the hell off my TV."

(I wonder if folks too young to remember Jimmy Dean think he's a made-up character, like Betty Crocker?)

Not really the same at all. Sara Lee is using Jimmy Dean's actual image, likeness, and voice, which they purchased the rights to in 1984.

..I suppose the people at Jimmy Dean are just trying to keep the name going.

... before he died. They own his image, name, anything he ever recorded for them.

He's working for the man after he's dead and for free - not even residuals for the estate.

13. He sold the company to Sara Lee in 1984 for $80 million.

The sale included rights to his image and likeness.

He continued to be paid for his image and likeness after the sale, including after he was removed from the advertising campaigns.

"Sara Lee, Dean said, pays him an undisclosed amount for the use of his name, his likeness and his marketing participation in the Jimmy Dean product line. The company will still retain rights to his name and image, but it has reduced its payments to reflect its dismissal of Dean as the line's spokesman, Dean said."
