My wife and I were watching our 3-year old grandson today. His communication skills are pretty good, but there are times when it's difficult to understand why he's saying. I jokingly said, "They should have a Google Translate app that translates Kidspeak to Adultspeak. A few minutes later I turned on my iPhone and the Google Translate app was open. Coincidence? I think not. My wife says that Siri is always listening unless you turn her off.

(11,453 posts)Siri is eavesdropping - it was designed to do that.

It's not just SIRI. They are listening to us when we have conversations at any time, don't have to be on the phone or even have it in your hand. It's really creepy. I watch what I say when I'm anywhere near a phone the has such apps.

(10,345 posts)But, I've been streaming it lately. Pretty cool that it starts out like a procedural, story-of-the-week kind of show, but gets into more of a sci-fi vibe later on. And, the subject matter of super intelligent AIs couldn't be more timely.
Also, I'll watch Michael Emerson in just about anything. He's very good.

It was actually pretty handy for making shopping lists... but it initiating "conversations" was too annoying.
