I remember how I felt the first time when I was dumped by a lover. My mother told me I'd get over it, and boy...

...that pissed me off, but of course, she was right.

My oldest son came home tonight in tears because a woman he loved told him it was over. It was his first really major love affair, just about one year long.

I tried to gently relay my experience, and so did my wife, you know, "...we all go through it..." but I'm trying very hard to not minimize the pain he's feeling while doing so.

He will get over it, but he sure as hell doesn't think so now.

I did tell him that 80% of rock songs are about being in love, and of those 80% are about love going bad.

It sounds like it ended like the Bonnie Raitt song, a last night together:

In fairness to the young woman, she told him out of the box that she was never going to be a long termer.

Yeah good idea. His love for her was not about her looks though. He enjoyed laughing at their troubles together. NNadir Oct 1 #5

When I was in pain. A simple sentence but it really helped.

That very same person with their youthful allure gone.

It helps!

I feel bad for him; although I'm fully aware it will pass, even if he doesn't believe it.
