Start with Sullivan's Travels, but their all great. From the late 30s.

I like many comedians but they are all too flawed to claim as favorites. I guess Dame Edna would be the only exception. So, Dame Edna is my favorite comedian.

Police Squad was one of my favorite but unfortunately short-lived tv series. I liked Lillyhammer very much.

So can you tell I'm old?

As a teen in the late 70's/early 80s, mine was Joe Flaherty on SCTV...classic characters like Count Floyd, Guy Caballero, Floyd Robertson, and so many others. That deadpan delivery always made me laugh so hard and still does.

Joe Flaherty - RIP.

David Letterman.

Then, about a year ago, I saw a compilation video on YouTube where Dave made some sexist/harassing comments to various female guests. It was a turn off.

Granted, it was a different era and I didn't give it much thought back in the day, but watching it in 2023, it was unsettling.

I watch Stephanie Miller (Free Speech T.V.) on most mornings! Also, one of her producers and sidekicks is Jody Hamilton, Carol Burnett's daughter.

The regular guests are great as well! I get a lot out of her show...

I'm also sorry to hear about your late husband....

Clearly the best of the bunch. Two of his funniest shows where when Ed Ames threw the tomahawk at a figure of a man on a board and it landed in the figure's crotch causing the audience to laugh. Of course, Carson was able to milk that moment for all it was worth.

Another was when Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise were on. Dom DeLuise was showing Carson a trick with eggs and it ended up the three of them smashing eggs on each other.

That's my current stand up favorites. *I've seen Trae and the Liberal Rednecks several times. If you get the chance, go!
For skit comedy, Carol Burnett & crew and Monty Python tied for first, with anything by Norman Lear or Carl Reiner tied for second.
Movies? M*A*S*H, Help, Hard Day's Night, The Ref, Groundhog Day, Dogma, Grosse Pointe Blank. Off tge top of my head, lol.

I love comedy, it's my favorite way to deal with the shitty realities of life. When I was about 12/13, we were in an ugly divorce with my dad, I would try to cheer up my mom by making up stupid commercials about items on the grocery store shelf, just to make her laugh. Laughter, mockery and satirical derision are a much healthier way to respond to unpleasantness in life, yes?
