The already existing big belly helped out a lot.

(92,695 posts)When I went as a cheap date, it was an epic party about which cannot relate anything else on an open forum such as this. It was the best Halloween party ever.

(92,695 posts)I don't normally go to parties, even back then, the 80s, but it was a great experience. I mean, how many cheap dates show up with a limo?

(68,339 posts)Im not much of a party goer either. I basically went because my brother and his girlfriend asked me to. It ended working out nicely for a shy guy like me.

(17,817 posts)At the party I danced with Frankenstein - who was an incredibly good dancer and I couldn't even see his face or hear anything except grunts.
He was hot.

(23,271 posts)The last time we displayed it on Halloween a guy got mad at me! I had to get my husband to get in the guys face to silence him. And I took the mask down. So BS.

(354 posts)I've never been to a costume party as an adult. I've dressed up as a witch and a tiger to give out candy on Halloween.

(36,030 posts)things.that bothered me. I dress up to give candy out. Now it is just a Halloween sweatshirt. Have fun.

(68,339 posts)I was young and poor, and it was easy to turn a bedsheet into a toga. To my credit, I wore the toga as a proper Roman gentleman would have worn it. I looked like a statue come to life.
There was also the virtue that it was was easy to get out of when the lady in the cat suit and I hit it off.

(30,151 posts)I and my 3 co-workers dressed up a plumbers with glow sticks under our outfits... with "Chernobyl Plumber Union" ( in Russian font ) labels and skull masks...
We won a contest.
Later I sort of regretted it.

(6,349 posts)My friends and I once did a parody of The Young Ones. I was Mike, the Cool Person, the guy who played Vivian had his wife make him a stuffed SPG to use in the video. I still have it.
Always loved that show!

(6,638 posts)Black leather jacket, Fonzie hair, cigarettes rolled up in my t- shirt sleeve, parole officer card in my pocket ( it was in the pocket of the jacket when I got it at Goodwill), oh and a bag of powdered sugar in the other pocket.
Would have worked out fine but I made a beer run from the party, and got pulled over on the bike on the way to the store. Took some serious explaining, but he let me go.
The beer run and the party were successful.

(15,624 posts)In high school, college, and post-graduation with the same costume - the Invisible Man. Trenchcoat, gloves, sunglasses, and a bedsheet torn into bandages and wrapped around the head though a few said I was Darkman (film from 1990). It's apparently very scary because it's very uncanny valley and a blank slate to project your own fears on. I got screams from people every year.

(15,624 posts)When I was in grad school and dating a woman getting her PhD in psychology, we went to her department's party as Darth Maul and Princess Amidala. I tried to convince her to trade costumes at the last minute but no go. Psych majors are interesting. One guy apparently dressed up as a childhood phobia every year. That year he was a Good Humor/ice cream man.

(3,389 posts)We used big boxes and cut holes on top for our heads to fit thru. The cardboard was covered with glossy white paper, but white paint would have been easier. Cut round window for clear plastic for front load washer and glued socks, rags, etc inside the plastic, then drew the door.
A square dryer door was drawn with black marker. We glued a small Tide box from laundromat, coins and scattered a little detergent on the tops. We wore white tights. We had to stand the whole evening.

(24,161 posts)First year we went as the Jetsons - actually rented a costume for the first and only time - it was fun! After that I had a friend who loved shopping at thrift stores and we'd get together and decide what costumes we wanted and then she'd shop for them! One year we were punks with black and purple hair wigs and lots of safety pins, including in our ears. One year hubs was a hooker and I reprised the punk. One year I was a jester and he was a king and one year I was a purple fairy and he reprised the punk look. All were so much fun. Hubs being a hooker and the purple fairy were my faves. Only thing, the purple makeup didn;t come off, I had a purple face for a week - not great when I was a manager but couldn't be helped.
