In a cyclone, hurricane, tornado or any other horrible storm event, how does the mail delivery system work??

Does mail ever get lost or destroyed?? I sent a friend a birthday card to Bonita Springs Fl, will it get delivered?? I wonder what happens when Post Offices get destroyed??
