(2,464 posts)I played Sunshine on My Shoulders which is my favorite John Denver song.
As a Baltimore Orioles fan, I have an extra reason to like Denver and his music as Thank God Im a Country Boy is played at Camden Yards during the seventh inning stretch. And he performed our National Anthem in 1983 before game 1 of the World Series which the Os took in 5 games over the Phillies. Denver mentioned in interviews that he cherished his relationship with the Orioles and their fans.
RIP John Denver and thanks for your music which lives on.

(10,981 posts)I miss him, too. Our polluted world could use the simple purity and innocence portrayed in his music. Sadly, he isn't here to share more of it.

(186 posts)I fell in love with John Denver during high school in the early 70's and then he faded away. In 1995 I watched his Wildlife Concert on PBS and fell in love with him all over again. I never listened to cassette tapes in the car (always had to be the radio) but I bought those cassette tapes and played them all the time while I was driving. My teenage children knew every word of every song from that concert. I played them until he lost his life in the Pacific Ocean. The movie Titanic was out at this time and I cried about John Denver every time I heard My Heart Will Go on and still cry to this day..

(3,520 posts)He released many more albums and toured a lot. He was very active in many environmental causes and wrote many more songs than the ones most people have heard.
The Wildlife Concert was absolutely beautiful. Im glad you fell in love with him all over again.

(186 posts)I got to go see him in Reno and while he was singing Leaving On a Jet Plane a jet plane took off from the Reno Airport and flew behind the stage for everyone to see. It was magical!

Such a joyous song!
Funny thing... I was in the high desert of AZ the Hopi Nation in a rented car w my friend who was driving. We'd met up on our separate vacation travels.
I had wanted to visit this desert area since I was 12 or so, now I was 29. We were between two of the three mesas. The sky had a fair amount of bright summer clouds, but still very blue. Seems I could see faint crespular rays between them.
I was so overwhelmed w joy that in my head I burst out into that JDenver song bc of It's ebullance! But so funny bc it's about The Ocean, and there I am in The Desert. Oh, not as dry as The Sahara - but, yes, a desert!
Then a year later a cousin who was studying at U of Denver; he took me up into The Rockies on a motorcycle!!! So we were up there, and just beginning to wind our way down the 10,000+ ft mountain we'd driven up with thousands of pine trees in a vast forest below us, along with just having seen blued up w snow capped peaks in the distance: the Mountains of the Continental Divide!
And, yup, Rocky Mountain High drifted into my consciousness.
