What are your favorite food items from Aldi? I just started going there but it seems the things I like are always out

1. I love Aldi and shop there almost exclusively.

I only have a crappy Kroger and Wal-hell as alternatives. I overheard two elderly women speaking in produce a couple of weeks ago. One said to the other, "I hate that damned Kroger! I went there the other day, had 2 small bags and it was over $200."

I can assure you I can fill my cart to overflowing for $200 at Aldi. And she is right about Kroger.

I love Aldi produce, the Turano bread, chips, crackers, cheeses, fresh mac n cheese, hummus, lunch meats (I eat the low-sodium turkey breast), Low Sodium chicken noodle soup, powdered French onion soup, pasta, canned crushed, diced and tomato paste, North Atlantic Salmon, Wild Caught Alaskan Cod, iced coffee (Mocha), Milk, Eggs, frozen french fries, frozen onion rings, low-fat ice cream, Aldi equivalent of A-1 steak sauce, mustard, Aldi allergy medicine (Zyrtec equivalent), toilet tissue and paper towels, and especially the $5 box of Belgian chocolates when the holiday merchandise arrives.

Yeah, not sure what's up with Aldi having such low stock of late. I'm a native Chicagoan relegated to the depths of hell in TN, so I just presume they haven't mastered the whole concept of restocking overnight because if it's not on the shelves, you can't sell it. Maybe some supply issues? Dunno.

They also have "special" limited-time deals on flavors of certain items and once they're gone, they're gone.

Finally, Aldi has quite a unique refund policy. If you are unhappy with any item for any reason, return it, preferrably with the receipt, but that's not always necessary, and they will hand you the cash for the item and you get to choose another item of equal or lesser value for free. Yup, I've done it just a couple of times. It would be easier to tell you what I don't like there (pickles. yuck! mushy.)

Well, everyone's taste is different.

I detest their "sour dough bread," because it has a metallic after-taste.

Their pretzel thins are great and 1/3 the price, as are most things at Aldi.

Trying to go down the aisles in my mind... LOL

Banana peppers are great too.

Albacore tuna is great.

I do not like their catsup becuse it's sweet. Yuck.

All of their chocolate is exemplary! Much of it is Belgian. Very reasonable.

Chip dip is great, as is their Greek yogurt, orange juice, & almond milk.

I've purchased their extra virgin olive oil several times and had it go bad prematurely, so I'd avoid that.

Their fake Oreos are great as are their peanut butter sandwich cookies (very low sugar and carbs!), their vegetable flavored knock-off Ritz crackers are great and, again, about 1/3 the price.

I don't care for their ground beef or their chicken breasts. The chicken breasts in meat section is always full, even when the other meats are all sold out.

I'm envious of your Aldi so close by. Mine is 15 miles in either direction, but well worth the drive. I go about twice per month and just stock up.

I always do. Their dark chocolate with mint flavor is exemplary as are the plain milk chocolate bars.

Serously, though, do not pass up the $5 boxes of Belgian chocolates when they put them out for the holidays. Once they're gone, that's it till next year and they are delicious! They also make great hostess gifts.

13. Their cling wrap is the worst in the world - never buy it. Hubs tried 3 times and the cutter never works!

Their "Simply" product lines are the best!! I love their cheeses and the prices too!

16. There seems to be an almond shortage

I like the Aldi roasted unsalted almonds and they've been out of them for a couple of months.

I ordered 3 lbs from a vendor on Amazon for about the same price.

7. We mostly cook from scratch..

I always stock up on the staples there - flour, sugar, nuts, canned tomato sauce and paste, milk.

As noted above, chocolate!! I don't imbibe much, but they have some good inexpensive wines.

just as good as food 3x the price at the pet store.

9. Their chocolate is the best anywhere

I make my dog's food every day using their frozen tubes of ground turkey. It's the lowest price of the other stores and has the least amount of water and fat to cook off. I once bought a preseasoned beef roast and didn't like the flavor at all. I was able to bring the outer wrapper in and got a full refund.

10. Not too much from Aldi's

The fresh produce section is generally much better compared to Tops Markets produce. There was an expection last week when I purchased a head of lettuce and the inside was already brown in the middle.


I like 2 of the Gluten Free Living Free products. I like the price on the coffee filters.


Aldi's eggs claim to be large sized, however compared to Tops Markets they are definitely not large so Aldi's customers are getting ripped off on price per unit. I would say Aldi's eggs are medium sized truth be told.


I hate Aldi's Mayo and Marinara sauce. It tastes like garbage. I'd rather pay extra for a higher quality tasting product at the regular grocery store.

Right now is the time that consumers are going to buying flour, sugar and heavy whipping cream for the incoming holidays, leaving the shelves bare until the truck delivery.

Last year I entered a Save A Lot to purchase all purpose flour for my holiday baking and the entire inventory of flour was sold out. So this year I purchased three 5 pound bags of flour back in September. I also want to mention that all generic brands of 5 pound bags of flour in my area is all the same price at $2.59, no matter what store it's at.


Aldi's is also the furthest "grocery" store away from me mileage wise... it also doesn't have a bottle return machine for N.Y bottle deposits. So unless I'm already in that area, I'm not making a special trip to go there.

One more thing that I want to say about eggs but my phone isn't letting me scroll up into my egg paragraph. I recently mentioned to my SO not to buy eggs that are in the recycled cardboard containers. I've checked the eggs in this container and they're fine with no cracks. Once I get them out to use them at home, I find cracked eggs. I don't seem to have this issue with eggs that are packaged in the styrofoam containers.


I also purchased Bakers Choice Sweetened Condensed Milk from Aldi's and there wasn't an expired date on the can. Some of the condensed milk was encrusted at the bottom of the can when I opened it and poured it. I've never had that happen before with other generic brands.


I don't believe that Aldi's is great savings as people claim it is... just my 2 cents.

17. There are a few.

'Simply Nature' line: peanut butter

'Berman's' line: pretty much all of their condiments. Their mustards are really good and they have a number of sauces for various uses.

I love their snacks. The cheddar puffs and those Fit & Active cheddar rice cakes are great for someone who can't really 'snack' anymore.

They also make these three minute entrees that are pretty good. I love the Artichoke Stuffed Chicken as well as the Thai Coconut Chicken. My hubby loves the Pork Burnt Ends and the Chicken Fajita. I like going to Aldi because of things like their Goat Cheese with Cranberries and Cinnamon log, their chicken spring rolls, their tuna pouches, and their annual holiday fare, such as their Stollen and their Winternacht Spekulatius Cookies.

I mean, they are not THE store or anything but their products are good and many are much cheaper than Cub or Kroger. I have also run into the 'always out' syndrome at Aldi's and one has to just play the currents and hope. Or, go get something similar from Hy Vee.
