Paul DiAnno, Iron Maidens lead singer on its first two albums, has died, according to a statement from his label on behalf of his family. No cause of death was announced but he had been struggling with illness for several years; he was 66.
DiAnno was Iron Maidens lead singer from 1978 through 1981, and sang on the groups self-titled debut album and its iconic follow-up, Killers. He was replaced by Bruce Dickinson, who has remained the bands singer ever since.
In the years afterward, DiAnno fronted the bands Battlezone and Killers, and released several solo albums. He suffered from health issues in recent years but still managed to perform more than 100 concerts since 2023, according to the announcement, which follows in full.
