The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAnybody feel like having a drinking thread this evening?
I’m not sure I’m up for it. Drinking; yes. I’ve been doing more of that than usual the last few days. But Friday Night has almost always been about warmth, socializing, and relaxing at the end of the week.
I’m trying to muster some motivation, and it’s not happening. I’ve barely gotten out of my bathrobe.
Still, if anyone feels up for it, and would like a temporary escape from reality, let me know.
I love you all…

(23,322 posts)What a week!
The election... ugh. Nothing more to add.
My office is closing and going fully virtual. I've had a NYC office for 42 years so it's a lot of stuff.
One of my best friends got news that his niece's husband went postal on her, their kids and another adult before offing himself. The gun violence eventually touches all of our lives. But, you know, 2nd Amendment and all that, (snark).
I need a new battery in my car's fob.
I'm ready but waiting till 5:00. I'm thinking of going for Manhattans. See you later, Aristus!
I'm on my second Manhattan. How're you doing!
I'm glad this week is behind us. As the song suggests, "Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down" but Friday nights always get me high!
Enjoy your weekend, Aristus.

(69,144 posts)That was my nickname at my last job; Manhattan. Because they knew how much I liked the cocktail.
Tonight, I’m enjoying a Bronx cocktail; gin, sweet and dry vermouth, and orange juice.

(20,088 posts)When we hear about an assault, we are more aware that no one is immune. And the formerly s.c. is letting it happen. Again, so sorry.

I'm also busting out my Ooze Drought vape and about to enjoy a toasty bowl!

(123,046 posts)I rarely drink at home, usually have to be at a party, but I'm seriously considering doing a lot more of it for the next few years. I have enough neglected booze in a cupboard to float a small canoe, if not a battleship, might even hit the akvavit.

(2,913 posts)Alcohol hates me, so I have to be really careful about how much I imbibe. But, alcohol suppresses fear, so indulging in a beer is very enticing.
I'm also looking for my bong.
Love you all.

(20,088 posts)Called Yorkshire Murders by J.R. Ellis. There are 10 so far, and I'm on the 10th one. Comforting.
I stopped watching news the 2nd week of Oct.
I really liked Death in Paradise.

(69,144 posts)Although I have to admit, it seems a little improbable that a police station could just close down at night, and everything would be all right until it opens again the next day.
Especially on an island with such a high murder rate.
I was sad when Sarah Martens left the show. She was nineteen different kinds of beautiful. I still don’t know quite how to describe her. I’d say ‘breathtaking’, but she was actually the opposite; when she was on screen, I was unable to breathe. Anyway: Wow!

But to everyone else: Enjoy!

(122,193 posts)If you can call that coffee. But at any rate, I have coffee and dessert a lot less than I used to.

(122,193 posts)The last dessert I had was Goth "Lasagna" (actually a 6-layer chocolate/blackberry cake) at our CroneTea Party, and we were drinking a nice prosecco with it.

(122,193 posts)of wine since our GothCrone Tea Party last Friday. We were all looking forward to LOTS of bubbly Tuesday night. Instead. . . I cannot even decide whether I want brandy or bourbon, so I do neither. But tomorrow will be my special hot chocolate day, so. . .
How did your lunch interview go?
Aristus
(69,144 posts)They sent me a job offer, but the base salary is lower than what I’ve been earning before. OTOH, it does include a quarterly production bonus and a signing bonus, so I may accept. I really like the people I would be working with.
niyad
(122,193 posts)I’m on pins and needles right now. I told them I would need the weekend to think about it. If I don’t get a counter-offer, I’m probably just going to accept. Everything else about the offer is very appealing.
