Maybe he experienced bombing as a kid, during the Blitz?

If you've seen above ground hoarders, the stuff expands to everywhere in the house, then the yard. Is this so different? Maybe he was sensitive to light?

Are tunnels under your house any different from a garage, attic, and basement full? And a couple storage units?

Seems like a lot of money to pour cement.
