We were doing a quick-turn flying the BOS-DCA-LGA shuttle, and passengers were boarding for the next leg to DCA. A passenger found the gator while loading a bag in an overhead bin near the rear of the cabin just before we pushed back.

The co-pilot went back to check things out. Next thing I know, I hear the passengers cheering and clapping. I looked back through the open flight deck door and here came the co-pilot down the aisle with a four foot long gator .. a death grip on the gator's neck and tail. The gator was opening his jaws fully and hissing like bloody hell. The passengers loved the show.

The line maintenance team brought a box up the jetway to the cabin door, and the co-pilot placed the gator in the box. We pushed back, cranked up, and flew the jet to DCA without further incidents.

We assume the gator escaped from some passenger's bag on a previous flight. The maintenance guys got the gator to the local humane society in Boston.

We made CNN News that night.
