Tom Savini Wants 'Walking Dead' Governor Role, But Is It John Hawkes' To Lose?
The question is, who will play the Governor? Ask horror legend Tom Savini, and he'll say it should be himself but he'll also say that Oscar nominated actor John Hawkes is the frontrunner for the part.
Speaking with MovieWeb, Savini the horror effects guru who counts "Dawn of the Dead" and "Friday the 13th" among his many credits revealed his desire to get a role as The Governor on "The Walking Dead," and his belief that the role already belongs to Hawkes.

Amerigo Vespucci
(30,885 posts)He was great in "From Dusk Till Dawn," and I enjoyed his "Night Of The Living Dead" remake, where he played the "Yeah, they're dead...they're all messed up" sheriff.
I haven't read the "Walking Dead" comics, and I've only recently had cable again, so I am playing catch-up on the series. My thoughts regarding last night's episode was that they have REALLY tapped into the George Romero mojo. The scene where Lori wakes up in the flipped car, I felt, answered all of the "critics" who thought Season II was "too slow"...same for the Rick / Hershel / Glenn showdown with the friends of the two guys they just killed and the swarm of "walkers" that joins in.
When a "celebrity" joins a crap show to boost its ratings, that's one thing. But "walking Dead" is on a real peak, and if Savini showed up, it would be KILLER (no pun intended).

(425 posts)they might not have Merle take over the Governor role. Plus it provide a certain symmetry to have a one-handed Governor in the show, as opposed to a one handed Rick in the comics.

I was super shocked and excited when I read your reply, the
similarities in our thinking are frightening.
then again, it does make a ton of sense for it to go that way if you've read the comics.

(425 posts)show the encounters between the Gov and Michionne, however. That was waaaayyyy too graphic for tv. Nice to hear that others have had the same ideas about the one- hand thing tho.
cheers

(8,308 posts)my only real true anticipation with the show has been centered around Michonne. She is by far my favorite character. Her, Rick, Carl, and Glenn, faves by far. i totally agree, they will not show everything about her regarding the governor but you never can tell. who knows where they'll take it.
Trust me you're not alone about the hand thing. This topic has been debated hotly amongst the nerd comic circle that is my friends.
