http://www.boredpanda.com/wild-mice/When theyre in our homes and eating our food, most consider mice to be repulsive pests. But out in their native fields and woodlands, mice are about as cute as it gets.
Because of their size (and perhaps also due to jealousy of their cuteness), there are a lot of things out to get mice, including the internets favorite mouse-slaying terror, the common house cat. But because of their adaptability and speed, they are still one of the most wide-spread and successful mammal species on Earth they can be found in almost any environment and on almost every continent.
Mice certainly are cute and harmless in their natural environments, but they can be devastating pests when introduced to new environments. In parts of New Zealand and Australia, the absence of natural predators allows them to breed unchecked and devastate local crops and bird populations. Many birds were able to nest safely in the South Pacific islands until mice were introduced there by European explorers.

(35,410 posts)the paragraph says they can be "devastating pests" and, at first, i thought it said "devastating pets."
my daughter had a total of seven pet mice (2 and 2 and 3--there were four living together at one period) -- they were all adorable, all with cute, individual personalities, and we were absolutely devastated when each one of them died. mice don't live long--and each one of these ranged from 9 months to a little over two years. each one was individually cremated in a private cremation and their ashes are in little urns. each one was loved so much.
thank you for these darling pictures.

(3,719 posts)and in the research area (which I stayed out of, don't like animal testing.... I was in clinical immunology) there was a cage of lab mice. (All females, males kept in another cage.) One day they found little babies... brown little babies. Obviously a field mouse had invaded. The animal techs kept looking for it but couldn't find it. Finally, one tech spotted some movement under the bedding and a little brown head popped up... as he walked over to the cage to get him out, the little white girl mice started scratching bedding over top of him. He was absolutely certain they were trying to hide their paramour.

(51,311 posts)Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murdering pattle.
I'm truly sorry man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion
Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth born companion
An' fellow mortal!
I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve;
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen icker in a thrave
'S a sma' request;
I'll get a blessin wi' the lave,
An' never miss't.
Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
It's silly wa's the win's are strewin!
An' naething, now, to big a new ane,
O' foggage green!
An' bleak December's win's ensuin,
Baith snell an' keen!
Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste,
An' weary winter comin fast,
An' cozie here, beneath the blast,
Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
Out thro' thy cell.
That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble,
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou's turned out, for a' thy trouble,
But house or hald,
To thole the winter's sleety dribble,
An' cranreuch cauld.
But Mousie, thou art no thy lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!
Still thou are blest, compared wi' me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!
