But, it may be better to do a 3 day, 2 day cycle of 8 hour shifts. Less commutes means less wasted fuel.

There have been all kinds of proposals in the past. The technocrats proposed a 4 hour/4 day work schedule spread throughout the week among different teams on different days so that production and traffic flow remain constant and in sync with societies needs.
