I'm cross posting this from GD. I see many fake news stories and when I want to check them out

I get page after page of the same shit from different right wing rags. And even if I add "hoax" or "politifact" or "snoops" I still get nothing. What can be done about this?

I think it is like the "she is a whore" rumors in junior high school---the more you call attention to it by denouncing it, the more attention it gets. Right now, the only people who would know anything about this are the people who will believe it because they want to believe everything bad about liberals---which is why they are reading those sites where this appears. But you are right, the facts should be easier to find.

If I am confronted with something like this, and the only info I can get in a search is pages of ultra-right wing blogs, I confront the person who is spewing it to provide a "reputable" source before I will even give it a thought. But you did the right thing by taking the actual bill number and searching that way. We often have to work harder than the wingnuts who are plastering this shit all over.

Lastly, it is "snopes", not "snoops". I use snopes, politifact, truthorfiction, and factcheck when debunking emails or FB posts. It is hard to argue or call all of them liars when they all agree on things. But some of these are too new or too scarce to have an article about them on fact checker sites.

and someone replied "no one should be posting stuff like this at all" - eye roll...

Anyway, my point, too. I wish we had more moderation so that *ALL* of the bad shit could get posted here and people were educated that yes, some of want to see and know *EVERYTHING* being said by they other side, AND the data to refute it (and preferably make the person spreading it appear to be the fool or scumbag they are).
