(34,318 posts)I read about another thinker recently who I think is more free market in scope, but is largely talking about the same phenomena: http://www.paragkhanna.com/ The idea that the old models of militarism, borders, etc are becoming outdated. In fact I would argue that we already have a global elite class that is interacting in a more connective fashion as they ignore borders and live (and work) where they desire.
How do we connect cities, do away with nation-states, re-distribute income along the way, and also save the planet (re environmental issues). Obviously we are moving into a post-capitalistic society and will need to embrace socialism to make it work. We can't have certain billionaires hoarding resources when the more logical choice is to divide resources in a way that allows us to repair our environment and live less consumer-oriented lifestyles. At least that is the direction I think we will need to go.
Jacque Fresco's Venus Project (resource allocation) is another look at how it can be done - he has been thinking about these issues and working on them for awhile.
When people say "oh socialism has never worked" these are some of the models I like to talk about. Just because we weren't ready for it in the past doesn't mean it can't be done.
