Related: About this forumCapitalism isn't the solution, it IS the problem
Any system that rewards greed over communitarianism is a problem
Any system that puts the individual above the community is a problem
Why do you think we have so many antivaxxers and antimaskers?
This isn't just because they want to "own the libs"
It's because our flavor of economics rewards the individual over the community, so anything that individual wants to do is favored over what could help the community
So to assert your individuality, even at the cost of your own life or others, is considered being a "maverick"
Faux pas

(258 posts)Adam Smith did write upon the evils of Capitalism - not pure versus something like we have now -
some of the core concepts of Capitalism, including private ownership and the means of production,
can go right or go sour to the majority of people under any type of Governance
Monopoly and Monopsony - a global market with the wrong goals and too greedy its incentives
Capitalism itself like any form of governance isn't perfect. But we should understand history, work to implement the best
sound policies with the fullest understanding of an informed Democratic Republic - all the time, which is not currently not among our
best attributes here in the United States.
The kinda good news...
I do believe the likes of Bernie Sanders has lit a fire in the populus which has inspired many gifted Progressives to run for office and win.
Honestly we know the cost of developing good medicines - we should pay the cost up front through the NIH saving literally a few hundred billion each year - still allowing the pharmaceuticals to manufacture for a fair profit of course.
There's a long list of educated moves that we could consider to become a more efficient and stabile economy
Just wanted to later add;
While the United States, which by the way holds the Sovereign Right to print it's own currency - U.S. Dollar used in approxiately 95% of all global trade deals - even by other states owning their own currency rights..
the United States Debt as it currently stands pays a historically low interest rate on its Debt,
And while the National debt is high as a percentage of GDP - we have one huge GDP - however it can be measured
The National Debt is very very much on the bottom of the list when it comes to true Existential threats that not only the United States
faces, but the world.
On that note - we need to focus more on Education - Public Education. We need very qualified teachers and they must be paid
what should only be considered a true middle class (once a dream) salary in an economy governed by democratic ideals, that can only be considered prosperous when it includes all. And no, that doesn't mean a government free giveaway - because we all know that
being poor, with no opportunity and with no hope or possibly having no home or place to stay
- well it just ain't right
I remember Clint saying that phrase in a couple of great movies he played in
Sept sadly he ain't a progressive. I think it'd be cool if he was though - so I'll imagine he was.
