On this day in Labor History the year was 1911. Marking one the most tragic days in US labor history.
146 women and girls died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.

I recall this horrible event vividly. Our workplaces are much safer because of the unions that pushed for safe work environments. It sickens me when I hear unions are no longer relevant. You never know the good you have until you lose it or are in danger of losing it (I think also of women's reproductive health--the RW pushing anticontraceptives and mandatory wait periods and ultrasounds and lectures..)
