so, i bought myself a xmas present.

had a shitty xmas. a fb friend posted a pic of an old fisher price farm. that stuff was my kids' favorite. and mine. i collected a boatload of it when they were little, including a big lot from my sister from her much older kids.
i had it all in a rented storeroom, waiting for the grandkids (of which i have little hope). through some f'ups related to my divorce, the storeroom ended up getting auctioned.

boy howdy, whoever got it is probably still chuckling.
i went on ebay and started looking at the vintage little people. i nearly cried.
some of that stuff is going for ssoooo much money. and all in played with condition. if you have a full set of anything, it is easily in the $100's.

i still have a barn that i picked up later and never got into storage. this was my fave. sleepy eyed cows, and goofy sheep. and chickens.
i couldnt help myself. i ended up buying a couple of good sized lots. got most of the farm parts between them.
close to $200. but hey, i really deserved a present.

now all i need is the grandkids. any leads on that from my friends here?

2. You are not alone

A couple of days after Christmas I was in the mall and a couple of booths down I saw an older guy in his 70s getting some Lionel engines. He had 5 of them, all around $250. each. I helped him carry them up to the front and and asked if Santa didn't bring him any. He just gave me a big smile.

You're not alone in your love for them. I'm always looking for things like Tiny Tears dolls, too. And doll houses. It seems we older people have a whole lot of good memories wrapped up in them. No tips re grandkids - I'm childless.

ok, kidding, but that is one of my fave commercials of all time. (nintendo commercial)
but, srsly, i did not have that many toys. a friend of mine used to insist that the reason i had a bunch of kids was for the toys. never could really argue.

decided the worst part about kids is that they have no memory of the really best times. their memories start to stick at about the time the shit hits the fan. and as young adults, they barely remember anything but the damn teenage years.

7. You may not believe this, but I took a trip to the local thrift shop this morning and guess what -

I found a Fisher-Price barn with fencing and animals and assorted stuff for $2.50. It's the version from the 1980's, not the 60's, but it will sell like hotcakes in my booth at the group antique shop. Could you send me some Picasso luck????? LOL.
