Wow, I was threatened by a seller on ebay
What does ebay do? Nothing best I can tell!
I left negative feedback on a seller from France (refund still pending ...). I received a note from him via ebay.com. I cannot believe they allow such things to go through! This is what he wrote to me in part:
>>BELIEVE ME, IF YOU DON'T MODIFY YOUR UNFAIR FEEDBACK YOU'RE GOING TO REGRET THIS BIG TIME.
Should I report this freak to the police or what?
He also got my user info. and has my phone # now.
What the hell should I do if anything at all?
I left him negative feedback because he hit me up for more $ after I'd paid for the item. I told him NO and he canceled the transaction and here it is two weeks later and still no refund!
I think I'm about done with the likes of ebay.com!
Thanks for any help/advice at all!

(34,278 posts)let your credit union/bank know as well, to block any more transactions. Take the police report and let the credit agencies know about this.
Sounds scary.

(9,441 posts)If so you should be protected but contact them directly and see what they say.
eBay tries to help everybody but you have to stay on top of them. Several years ago I purchased something that I never received. I kept waiting for the item to arrive and finally, after a month, contacted eBay. At that point I was told they could do nothing because I had let it go too long.
Sorry you had this problem.

(40,015 posts)Actually, that wouldnt be helpful.
But really, I wouldnt be intimidated. You left honest feedback and hes honestly being an ass. And good for you; feedback has become meaningless and the quality of e-commerce is suffering as a result. A lot of the items I get from independent sellers these days comes with nicks and dents; many people arent packing things with care the way they used to.
You did everyone a service and hes trying to keep customers in the dark. Just cover all the bases paperwork-wise and move on. You can always punt later on if the guy proves to be a real nuisance.

(106,372 posts)You seem to be stating ebay won't do anything, but exactly what have you tried to do with ebay to address this?
The seller has violated multiple ebay rules (asking for more money is a BIG no no)
Hopefully you DID use paypal. It is about the best protection (despite my own issues with one co-founder of paypal and some of their fees they pass on to sellers) but they have come through for me in the past.
Obviously, you can make a dispute with your credit card, if you used one, but expect that to take considerable time on an overseas transaction.
If something escalates and you feel physically threatened, I would make a police report, but for that, you need a paper trail and evidence of what ebay has done (or not done) and ultimately may just require you to change your email address and logins for ebay (or even, perhaps your ebay account/name) and certainly a phone number. I'd not do the latter until I was sure there was going to be an escalation AND in consultation with EBAY (well documented consultation for your records).
Good luck. I really hope you take the time and persistence to MAKE ebay stand up for you. I know they will (eventually), but it can be damned frustrating process. Still, don't let that deter you.

(21,068 posts)I just got up again and yes, I contacted them. They said they were going to do something. He left positive feedback on me with a negative statement. I asked them to REMOVE it and they said it would take a couple of days to do that. Well, it was gone 5 mins. later so maybe they are after him I can only hope.
I paid via PayPal. It says that my refund is PENDING until the 15th now.
If I don't have it tomorrow, I'll call again.
The message threatening me was sent through ebay's servers so they have it already.
Not a word of apology or anything else.
If anything else happens, I'll take it further!
Thanks to everyone that replied!

(21,068 posts)Being he did not threaten to physically harm me, they will do nothing to him.
The bank advised me to file a report w/the local authorities.

(51,054 posts)and put him on your ignore list. I had a similar run-in with a guy from England who stiffed me on an expensive piece of art glass. I'm kind of sour on ebay for selling these days. It used to be so great, but now it's mostly a big hassle.
He can come and get me if he is that hard up.
Big awhole from France is what he is.
I should get the money back. It is in PayPal and should be released to me on the 15th it appears.
Where I live, the police/sheriff are a big joke sadly.
Ebay has gone to hell you are so right.
They can have it to themselves along with all of their crooks.
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.
