Beanie Babies?
My girls were born 9 years apart, and between the two of them I think we have an example of every Beanie Baby made. Most are in excellent shape.
Is there any value in these, or were they just an over-hyped stuffed toy?
Im sure I could Google this, but I thought that I would bring the question to the DU experts.

(17,235 posts)Put them in a garage sale for $1.00 each but be willing and happy to get $0.50 each.

(19,459 posts)My wife has them in a big box, and we are thinking of donating them to a mom & kids shelter or to a childrens hospital in the Bay Area.
Thanks again for your response.

(17,235 posts)Some might have issues with used stuffed animals and I would check with the head honchos before burning up your gas to a potential dead end.

(19,459 posts)It may be part of the reason our local police department showed no interest in them as trauma toys for kids in stressful situations.

so parents would feel inclined to give into their kids at the store. They had the price before they had the product in fact. They were indeed created to be a dopamine hit for kids and families. They were created to be a drug. I have one and i don't have kids. Darned are they not cute. I had little china figurines as a kid that were baby animals. I had a baby monkey stuffed animal as a kid that had a three foot tail. I stayed on a farm as a kid and was all about the baby animals. It was an old childhood love repackaged to be a trend. Now we have the internet that plays the same role and we get addicted there.

(51,054 posts)but the people who thought their $5,000 Beanies would lead to a lavish retirement are now eating ramen. The only ones I've every bothered to buy are the Grateful Dead ones. They're a "cross collectible" and will sell fairly quickly.

(5,486 posts)She volunteered as a story teller at her library and used her Beanies and other stuffed animals as props so they were thrilled to adopt her collection to continue story telling there and allow the kids to enjoy the Beanies after she was gone.

(13,403 posts)Beanie toys with your kid's meal.
Parents and toddler were at the register, kid bawling because parents got the toy and were holding it for when the kid was older and it would be "worth sum'thin."

(19,043 posts)My granddaughter and I got a nice Beanie Baby, with tags, at a yard sale for $1 recently. I looked it up when I got home, and it has an error on the tag that makes it worth up $1200.00. A couple of the same sold on eBay for $7-12. I made the mistake of blurting out the high asking price to my granddaughter, and she has put it in a safe place and is sure she will sell it for $1200.00! I have high hopes for that girl lol
If you google rare Beanie Baby, you might get a list of the ones that have some value. They have to be original, in unused condition, with tags to get the highest prices. Have fun

(2,778 posts)a product.. I had an antique store at the time and had a lot of women coming in looking for Beanie Babies. i'd never buy them b/c it was a self promoting scam. It got so bad having ppl. asking about them so often that I bought one. I had some old science lab trays for dissection of fetal pigs. I think we can all remember H/S aluminum trays with wax at the bottom. I put a sign on the front door saying Beanie Baby inside, and had it as a vivisection pinned down in a on the ceiling of my shop.
I called it Beanie Babies Biopsy's. They didn't sell well so I stopped selling after about a week.

(19,459 posts)We ended up giving them to a place that helps abused mothers and children. Hopefully, the kids will get some pleasure from them.
No vivisection though.
