I had a pin repaired

After my grandmother passed away, I was sorting and packing her things. I found this odd pin in her jewelry, and have hung on to it since around 1980. I researched it off and on, but never found out much about it. I was looking again last fall, and it turns out it is a Victorian kilt pin. I was thrilled that it might be 1870 or older. One of the stones was missing, and I decided I would give myself a gift and get it repaired. It has bloodstone, citrine and cairngorm (if real stones, and not glass). One of the bloodstones was cracked when I found the pin, and eventually fell out of the setting. I couldn't find the pieces in my jewelry boxes, but I had a couple pieces of bloodstone in our rock collection. I took the pin and the stones to the jeweler in October. I thought the jeweler could chip a piece off and shape it to replace the missing stone. He said he couldn't do that and he searched online for a stone that would fit. At first, they were going to give the pin back to me, but then called with the good news that they had found a stone that would fit. I picked the pin up today and it looks so nice. My grandmother passed away on this day 41 years ago. I thought it was cool that this was the day I got the pin back.

I think the pin might have come from my grandfather's family. My grandmother and her family were Swedish and my mother's family were German/Czech. I have been trying to research my grandfather's family for several years, but it has been a challenge. I heard he was Scotch/Welsh, so I hope I have an heirloom from his family to pass along.

7. There's a modern version of this type of Scottish jewelry made by a company named

"Miracle." I've always liked their pins, especially the older pieces. Your antique pin is a real treasure though. It's nice you took such pains to get it restored.

8. I hope I can learn why gram had this pin

She had some other heirloom pieces which I have already given to my daughter. One was a pretty miniature on porcelain, and another was a pretty cameo.
