Related: About this forumI finished this guy in record time for me! 4 days.
Not so long ago I agonized for months over a painting. If I still feel he is done tomorrow I will sign it and give it to his person. 🙂
Edit: should have said all feedback welcome!

(53,410 posts)Your depiction of the fur is really admirable and unique. You give the dog an aura without being obvious about it. A special glow. You use very nice colors. I like the way you use very subtle blues and purples around the outline and shot through the fur. And then you use a dry brush to paint the outer tips of fur.
The way you dont make the ears perfect mirror images of each other gives this little dog an expression as if its reacting to you talking to it. This particular ability is rare. Im sure you captured that dog, not just a generic Chihuahua. You even included his eyelashes, another small feature that makes each animal unique. His eyes are brilliant, sharp and looking right at the viewer. You managed to make them look moist like they are in small dogs whose eyes bulge a bit.
I know what you mean about being a bit confused and suspicious about the time you put into it. I have a tree Ive been painting since last year and Im still not finished! The first painting I did of that same tree took me a whole two hours!
Its finished so you can put it down.

(25,542 posts)Animals are almost as hard to paint as humans! You did a great job!
Ive tried 4 portraits:
1 looked pretty nice
2 okay -sort of
1 not so okay
Im enjoying animals so much more and having more success. I do want to try a portrait again before too long hoping Ive learned something since the last one!

(18,618 posts)I sent her this pic and she said it was him. He passed away a couple of years ago, so I think she will enjoy having it. I will hand him over next week. I get so attached as I paint them. I want to keep them all. i just started the last one in my backlog today, a sweet cat.
If you have a furry friend you would like me to paint (for free), just DM me and I will give you my email address to send some close up pics to 🙂
