Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who managed weapons and ammunition on the set of Rust, the western which saw live ammunition from the gun carried by lead actor and producer Alec Baldwin accidentally hit the films cinematographer and director, has filed a lawsuit against the supplier of guns and bullets.
The lawsuit, against Seth Kenney and his company, PDQ Arm & Prop, alleges that boxes marked as inert dummy rounds actually included live bullets.
Hannah and the entire Rust movie crew relied on the defendants misrepresentation that they provided only dummy ammunition, according to documents in the suit filed in state court in New Mexico.
It was on 21 October that the gun carried by Baldwin discharged during rehearsals for a scene. The bullet killed the films cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded its director, Joel Souza.

(6,894 posts)Even if the boxes somehow contained real ammo, it is/was her job, her responsibility, to ensure that the real bullets didn't get loaded in the gun.
Even if there are no criminal charges, there will be civil trials and she's going to be involved with this for a very long time.

which chamber in a six shooter was dirty and why only one. She shook it to check if it was a blank, but it wasn't. A chamber on the cylinder was dirty and the barrel wasn't. She couldn't tell it was live round by the weight of it alone. Now she blames the ammo supplier for her stupidity.

(14,673 posts)Notice the crimp on the end of the cartridge.. It's a blank
So Even if the gun/ammo supplier did mix live and blank rounds in the box, you can visibly tell the difference, if you pay attention...uff
I would assume (I know big mistake) a competent armorer would know the difference and check.. If you look close the blank round even says "blank" on the end..
A regular 45 long cold cartridge does not have this.. it's smooth

How in the world did she not notice she was loading live ammunition?
