I saw a quilt done by Jane Brocket on Pintrest, so lovely, I decided to make one. It is made with vintage embroidery cut from tablecloths, dresser scarfs and chair covers. So pretty and so easy. I am almost finished with my first one. I sewed it up making 6 inch blocks. I took it to the quilt shop and had it basted to the batting and backing and I am now hand quilting it. I am going to give it to my granddaughter for a wedding gift. Added benefit; lots of fun going to estate sales, flea markets and antique malls looking for the old linens.

(3,718 posts)Coming from a quiltmaking family, I really appreciate this gorgeous quilt. My grandmother once made a quilt from embordered handkerchiefs. It was so beautiful.
Lovely work!

(113,130 posts)I remember when my mother inherited them, they were in beautiful colors.
My mother bleached everything, so now they're white on white.
They're still beautiful.

(2,681 posts)If you are looking for a easy crafting project, this is perfect. I saw it in Jane Brocket's book, "the Gentle Art of Stitching". She tied hers. I was going to tie mine, but since it was for a wedding gift, I wanted to put a little more work into it. I quilted "in the ditch" around each block and then an "X" across each block, corner to corner. Didn't take small stitches, so it went fairly fast.
My sister has made one, too. She just finished the top and she said she is going to tie it after she gets it basted at the quilt shop. I am almost done with mine, few more rows to stitch, then add the binding around the edge. I will photo it again when I am done.

(2,681 posts)Got my thrift store shirt quilt top done. Just need to add border strips of natural muslin and medium blue solid. Hope to get the top done this weekend. This was such an easy pattern, took longer to cut than it did to sew.
I had decided that I wanted a blue willow quilt. I took a picture of one my plates and printed it on fabric. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I decided to lay the blocks out in Diamond pattern. A blue willow plate block edged by a blue on blue print. The alternating block has a 16 patch block using all blue prints, edged in natural muslin.
This project will go fast, the blocks are 10.5 inches and I need 20 plate blocks and 16 patchwork blocks. I have all the fabric cut for the blocks and have all my plate blocks printed. Shouldn't take long to sew up.
Here are my sample blocks.
