Does anyone do Tunisian crochet, aka afghan stitch?

Many years ago, I did it quite successfully. I'm trying again now, and I find my work curls up from the bottom. Am I doing something wrong? I don't remember having this happen in the past.

time but it may be that you need to use a larger hook. If that doesn't
work you could ask on Ravelry.com. They know just about everything there is to know about needlecraft. Good luck.

I did try a larger hook, but maybe that isn't big enough. I didn't know you could ask at Ravelry.

can ask over there. Once you look through the "boards" the topics are endless. They helped me learn three new(to me) ways of knitting. One friend said she wouldn't go there because it was such a time suck. She asked me for a knit tea cozy pattern and several hundreds of patterns later she had only found eight she wanted to make out of the many on file.

Never heard of it before but I did look it up and it looks interesting. Next time I break out the yarn and hooks I'll be trying that.

Either very long or with a cable attached to fit all the stitches. It’s fun and pretty.

I watched a couple videos about it. I have seen the hooks so I now know what they are for! I'll find one in my travels, I'm sure. I go to the thrift store often, they almost always have what I'm looking for within a couple visits. (Last week I was looking for marbles for a Chinese checkers set and they had two yesterday. I found a nice wooden board earlier but it had no marbles. Now I have them and I can recycle the cardboard box and all.)

I think I have seen some of those hooks at the thrift store already so it may take no time at all to find one there. There are a few sewing shops in town too so I'll be looking. I like what the finished product looks like. I always wanted to find a way to make a fabric from crochet, now I have a method for that!

The stitches are perfect little squares for that.

That gives me ideas. I was planning to try with the crochet string (eek I can't remember what it's called) and that would lend itself to appliques of various sorts.

I'll see how that works out.

I got into braided rug making a couple years ago. My first attempt was a hellish project and I was daunted by it because I did everything you could possibly do wrong and still came out with a nice looking rug!

When I decided to tackle it again a few years later, I found out, via utoob, that I had done it all wrong, everything! I wasn't even braiding! I was plaiting!

What a discovery.

By watching the instruction videos I learned that I was making it so much harder than it is. Comical, really. My more recent attempts were actually fun to do and I am making a large rug out of my old wool blankets.

Anyway, I am thrilled to find so much info on the site, you can figure out how to do an endless number of things from videos posted there.
