Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumSome artists cover a song as basically
just the same as the original with just them singing as the main difference. Bryan Ferry is an artist who is going to go way beyond that and give you a fantastic arrangement and musicians that shine.

(12,301 posts)Basically Roxy Music backing him. He did a scorching version of Sympathy for the Devil.
And his 90s cover of I Put a Spell on You is a complete reinvention.

(5,024 posts)"I Put a Spell on You" there was a great old video of Alan Price singing solo outdoors with just playing the organ. Haven't seen it now in a long while. There is a studio cut of him doing it but it's a little different. Also check out Arthur Brown for a different take with that great deep voice of his.

(68,460 posts)My project I have on SoundCloud is all covers, but done in a different way.
So, I'm glad Bryan chose to do this, too.

(5,024 posts)the term "reinterpretation" as describing it all pretty well. Sometimes even the original artists do wonderful reinterpretations. I remember an old Who bootleg that had "Magic Bus" done to a reggae beat. None of the other typical instruments/sounds of reggae. Just the beat. It was post Moon I think. Heard it a few times over the air and then it disappeared.

Geez, Coltrane did his take on "My Favorite Things". And, he made it jazz!
I don't see the point of recording somebody else's hit, and not do as much as possible to make ut your own.
